Sustainable housing for the future
SKB is a housing co-operative that builds, manages and leases residential properties to its members. The co-operative is owned by its residents and those members who are still queuing for an available apartment.
Today, we manage over 8,200 apartments in Stockholm and six adjacent municipalities. This makes us the largest player in the private rental market in Stockholm.
Co-operative entrepreneurship has a long tradition in Sweden, and its core values include solidarity, justice and co-operation. For SKB, “co-operation” means 92,000+ members who own and contribute to the development of the association. Our members’ involvement is fundamental to SKB, and together we continue to develop a housing concept that was launched in 1916.
SKB’s executive organisation is chaired by a CEO who is appointed by SKB’s Board of Directors. The organisation is comprised of 140 staff and run as an economic association on commercial terms. We put our members’ interest at the forefront of everything we do. As SKB is a not-for-profit organisation, any financial surplus is reinvested into the association, thus benefiting our members.
We consider it of paramount importance to act responsibly when it comes to social, economic and environmental issues. We also work with sustainable development in a number of areas.
Because of its size and form of tenure, SKB is a unique organisation that offers variety in the housing market. We are located in one of Europe’s fastest-growing metropolitan regions and our aim is to have started the construction of over 1,500 new apartments by the end of 2028. We want to continue to provide more people with the possibility to live in the Stockholm region. We do this through high quality housing and management, and our core commitment is to always manage what we own.
